FEMALE SEXUALITY AND THE MALE GAZE

Female Sexuality and the Male Gaze is a myth-shattering light-shining illustration, expertly delivered by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher, which left me buzzing - highly recommended.

FEMALE SEXUALITY AND THE MALE GAZE

If every image is worth a thousand words, then the history of art is awash with silenced, naked women. Displayed like trophies, mute and objectified, the nudes of the western world have long been a symbol of the power of a patriarchal world.

Through this lecture students will be offered a feminist perspective on the infamous concept of ‘the male gaze’ with reference to some of the most famous masterpieces of all time, we will explore the nuance of the naked and the nude and how the 'male gaze' has permeated notions of female sexuality in our collective consciousness.

Including introductions to everything from John Berger to Laura Mulvey, feminist film theory, witchcraft, women's suffrage and the roles of women in the bible, this is a fantastic entry-lecture into the world of BAHP that appeals to everyone from English-Literature enthusiasts to Gender Politics Students and Fine Artists, Male or Female.

Luisa is an animated, eloquent and experienced teacher with a wealth of knowledge and research behind her talks, i’d go again!

I was one of the first students to attend this course, as a non-artist I found it very interesting and entertaining, a thoroughly enjoyable day!
